On 19th May, delegates at the recent SDEA Annual Review Day, which was held at the Rydges Kensington Hotel, revelled in an afternoon of interesting and informative presentations from senior retail players. Three separate speakers delved into some of the key topical issues affecting us all in retail right now.

Head Shop Design Buyer for Lush, Gary Wells enthused with the science of the cosmetic giant’s business model. He showed clear evidence that contrary to popular belief it is perfectly feasible to be both profitable and ethical in business by being relevant and unique – core retail values. Founder of Future Retail Consulting, Catherine Erdly enthralled delegates with her strategies for not just surviving but thriving in a post Brexit retail market. She offered her vision of a successful retail future, urging companies to be agile, have clear vision, connect with their customer and above all differentiate. Finally, Sarah Adams, Event Manager of Retail Design Expo delivered a stimulating presentation on this year’s highly successful event and described how the show will adapt and grow to become bigger and better in 2019.

During the day’s proceedings Executive Council elections were also carried out; Angus Morton of B Brown Display Materials was voted President of the Association, whilst Paul Smart of Arken was elected Vice President. They will work together over the coming months bringing fresh ideas and inspiration, securing the future growth of this highly valued organisation.
